%X Among the various methods available for the study of vegetated areas and cultures using the spectral reflectance highlights the use of vegetation indices, so that they can measure some parameters of interest, including, indicators of growth and vigor of the vegetation. The aim of this work was to study the behavior of the NDVI vegetation index at different growth stages in the bean crop by using digital still images. The work was conducted in greenhouse using of plastic vessels with a volume of 0,008 m3, to compose the experimental plots in a completely randomized design (CRD) with five treatments (phenological stages V4, R6, R7, R8 and R9) and eight repetitions, seeded with the bean cultivar IPR Tangara. The acquisition and processing of images were performed at the phenological stages V4, R6, R7, R8 and R9 through the use of a digital camera Fujifilm IS Pro® 5 UVIR with filters in the visible and infrared. For the statistical analysis we used the SISVAR® program to verify the significance by t test at 5% probability. There was a significant difference for most phenological stages, concomitant with the gradual increase in NDVI values as the development of culture, especially in relation between the vegetative and reproductive stages, may be concluded that the use of properly prepared digital cameras capturing the spectral range referring to the index, it has great potential in the evaluation in monitoring the development of the bean crop.
